Testimonial:

Earning my APR has been quite the journey. Never a good test taker, I took the exam in 2007 with less than desirable results. After encouragement from mentors within the Oklahoma City chapter, I chose to once again work toward accreditation in 2010.

The second time around I changed my attitude and focus. I looked at earning my APR as a journey rather than preparation for the exam. I set aside time each week for quality discussion with another professional. We examined each of the KSAs and applied real life scenarios to them. I was able to see real life application of what I was learning. When looking at the material in terms of real life application rather than trying to memorize a plethora of information, everything seemed to fall in place.

Testimonial:

I think that the APR process is a must for all public relations professionals who want to maximize their potential in their career.  It’s about a commitment to a strategic, researched-based approach to communications that will add the most value to your client or your organization.  I think it also underscores the importance of continuous learning and education in our careers – of always striving to understand and apply the theory that underpins what we do every day.

Going through the APR process, particularly preparing for the examp, demands that you really think about how you work every day and fills voids in your knowledge base. Also, developing your portfolio and preparing for the Readiness Review provides an opportunity to take stock in your career and focus on areas for development. I would highly recommend all PRSA members who are serious about deepening their knowledge base and enhancing their career to consider going through the APR process. You won't regret it!

Obtaining an APR is just as important to an individual's growth as a public relations practitioner as it is to the industry as a whole. Taking an active approach to learning and making a commitment to professional development strengthens our function as an essential member of the management team. Having your APR shows that you have dedicated your professional career to sound decision making, the highest of ethical standards and helping others.

Obtaining my APR has been one of the most challenging and gratifying experiences of my career. In addition to testing my knowledge and expertise as a practitioner, it has provided me with a mark of distinction from other professionals. Accreditation has also signified a sense of accomplishment for me in the field of public relations.
