Be the District, not just part of it…
Here are some specific needs the District needs now. Here are some specific needs the District needs now.
- Sponsorship to round out the Southwest District Conference in Tulsa on April 11-13. The Tulsa chapter has less than 10 percent of its sponsorship goal left to raise. That is AMAZING. Time for us to rally so they will surpass their goal. Ask your employer, your vendors and local communications agencies to sponsor. Current opportunities are located at - http://www.prsaswconf.org/sponsors/sponsorship-opportunities. Contact Nicole Morgan, 2012 District Conference Chair and Tulsa Chapter President (she’s a superhero!), at

for instruction on sending in sponsorship checks and money.
- While on the District Conference topic, we’re recruiting the next chapters to host the conference in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The earlier we get this solidified, the longer the chapters will have to plan for a success. Show off your chapter and your cities to the District. If you’re interested, shoot me an email (

) and we’ll chat about the benefits and requirements.
- Open committee chair positions. Yes, we have two positions still open to serve at the District level. If you are or you know someone who would be interested, send me a quick email to

.
- Professional Development / Speakers Bureau – this role will focus on chapters to garner district and national-level speakers for chapter professional development and monthly meetings.
- Conference / Quick Start – this role will engage, support and recruit chapters hosting the annual Southwest District Conference and the Quick Start program.
Until next time, know that the District is here to make your chapter successful in every way.

2011 APR Scholarship Recipient Holley Mangham, APR Oklahoma City Chapter of PRSA
Testimonial:
Earning my APR has been quite the journey. Never a good test taker, I took the exam in 2007 with less than desirable results. After encouragement from mentors within the Oklahoma City chapter, I chose to once again work toward accreditation in 2010.
The second time around I changed my attitude and focus. I looked at earning my APR as a journey rather than preparation for the exam. I set aside time each week for quality discussion with another professional. We examined each of the KSAs and applied real life scenarios to them. I was able to see real life application of what I was learning. When looking at the material in terms of real life application rather than trying to memorize a plethora of information, everything seemed to fall in place.

Things to remember about Southwest District in 2012
There are three things you should remember about Southwest District as we move into 2012.
- APR Scholarship - Yes, the District awards 10 $100 scholarship each year. Read more about it.
- District Speakers Bureau - The District has a speakers bureau for the chapters to use. The District awards any chapter a $100 stipend that books a speaker from the Speakers Bureau. Learn about it.
- Southwest District Conference - Register now (www.prsaswconf.org) for the District conference in Tulsa during April 11-13, 2012. The Tulsa chapter has worked its tail off putting together a killer conference. You want to be there. Trust me.
Let's keep growing our District!!
