2010 APR Scholarship Recipient Christi Davis Gallagher, APR Northwest Arkansas Chapter of PRSA
Testimonial: My decision to make the commitment to seek accreditation in public relations has proven to be a significant turning point in my professional development. Prior to attaining my APR, I had developed the majority of my PR knowledge and skills while on the job. Through the process of preparing for the Readiness Review and studying for the APR test, I learned about public relations concepts, theories, practices and the history of PR, and now find myself referring back to these insights on a daily basis.

2010 APR Scholarship Recipient Sandra Brodnicki, APR Greater Fort Worth Chapter PRSA
Testimonial:
Sandra Brodnicki, APR
Greater Fort Worth Chapter PRSA
I have developed my own “business case” for becoming accredited. As the president of an independent strategic public relations and marketing communication practice, I will be able to use my Accreditation to differentiate myself in the marketplace. Preparing for the test and using the knowledge acquired to obtain my APR has also given me renewed confidence. It’s much like when I took business classes in 2002. I knew how to “do PR,” but I didn’t know how to be a business owner. Today, I know more about being the head of a company, but I need to continue to learn about our field in light of new technologies, potential growth and opportunities, and business appreciation of the discipline. I consider the time, effort and energy used to obtain my APR an investment in my professional self. I would encourage others to consider their own personal business case when they are making the decision to pursue their APR.

Earning an APR is more a journey than a destination. While accreditation is a significant milestone in one’s career, the lessons learned along the way are what provide the real value for those who seek the role of trusted counselor to clients and employers. From the young professional to the seasoned veteran, there is much to be gained throughout this process.
